Many older homes in and around Worcester sit on fieldstone or block foundations, while newer homes have poured concrete. A leaking crack in a poured wall can usually be sealed from inside by injecting it with polyurethane or epoxy, a quick job that doesn't need excavation.
Stone and block walls are a different story. Water travels through the mortar joints and hollow cores, so sealing one spot just moves the leak somewhere else. Those walls are normally handled with drainage and a membrane rather than crack injection. Any crack that runs horizontally, steps diagonally through block, or is getting wider over time should be looked at for structural movement before it's patched, and the right first visit may be from a structural engineer. In your request, describe the wall type and the crack, and send photos if the company asks. It helps them come prepared.
